Vietnam strongly opposes Taiwan’s building of lighthouse on Ba Binh Island

Wednesday, August 26, 2015, 07:23 GMT+7

Vietnam resolutely objects to Taiwan’s illegal building of a lighthouse on Ba Binh Island, part of Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, said Vietnamese Ministry of  Foreign Affairs spokesman Le Hai Binh. Binh made the statement while replying to questions from reporters on the move by Taiwan at a press briefing in Hanoi on Monday.

The lighthouse construction has seriously violated Vietnam’s territorial sovereignty over the archipelago in the East Vietnam Sea and caused tension and complicated the situation in the sea area. “Vietnam has full legal foundation and historical evidence to claim its indisputable sovereignty over the Truong Sa and Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelagos,” the spokesman said. “All foreign-related activities in the water areas without Vietnam’s prior permission are illegal and null and void,” Binh said. Vietnam demands that Taiwan stop the wrongful action immediately and not commit any similar activities again, he stressed.
