-- The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has banned a 36-year-old passenger from Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City, from flying for 12 months, between July 30, 2024, and July 29, 2025, for falsely claiming that there was a grenade in their suitcase while on a plane.

-- Colonel Phan Thanh Tam, director of the Public Security Department of Phu Yen Province in south-central Vietnam, announced on Friday that Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security, had sent a letter of commendation to Tam’s unit, praising their successful dismantling of a large-scale online gambling ring involving transactions of up to VND1 trillion (US$39.5 million).

-- Police in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday issued a warning about a scam involving the editing of personal images into clips with sexual content to blackmail individuals, following numerous reports of such crimes from the public.

-- The Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu on Friday reported that heavy rain and whirlwinds in the same morning caused one house to collapse and eight others in Vinh Trach Commune, Bac Lieu City, to have their roofs blown off.

-- Approximately 30 minutes after departing, an express boat bound for Phu Quoc Island off southern Kien Giang Province encountered trash stuck in its propeller and was forced to return to the mainland on Friday afternoon.

-- A restaurant on National Highway 1 in Van Thang Commune, Van Ninh District, Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam, has been fined VND1.5 million ($59) by authorities for not displaying prices after customers accused it of overcharging a group of 10 adults and five children VND2.63 million ($104) for a lunch of braised shrimp and meat, braised chicken, fish soup, fried eggs, and vegetables.

-- In the second quarter of this year, Saigon Beer - Alcohol - Beverage Joint Stock Corporation (Sabeco) achieved an after-tax profit of over VND1.3 trillion ($51.3 million), the highest since the fourth quarter of 2022. This result is notable given the stricter regulations on alcohol consumption for drivers, which have likely discouraged many from drinking.

-- The Mekong Delta province of Long An on Friday announced the approval of a 466-hectare industrial park on the border with Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh Province.

-- Vietnam will host the Men’s 10-ball Pool World Championship and three other international billiards tournaments in 2025, with a combined prize pool of $500,000, as announced during the strategic cooperation ceremony between BOX Vietnam and Predator Group in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday afternoon.
