U.S. President Barack Obama visited the former residence of late Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh on Monday as part of his agenda on a three-day visit to the country.
After attending his state reception and joining a private talk with Vietnamese State President Tran Dai Quang earlier the day, President Obama went for a walk to the former residence of late Vietnamese revolutionary figurehead Ho Chi Minh.
The residence is a simple stilt house located about 150 meters from the Presidential Palace, where the late president lived during his years serving as the country’s leader.
President Obama was joined by Chairwoman of Vietnam’s lawmaking National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, as the two exchanged friendly conversations throughout the walk.
The U.S. president and the Vietnamese chairwoman then went on to feed the fish in a pond near the residence, where President Ho Chi Minh used to spend his free time feeding the animals in tranquility.
After the brief visit, the U.S. president was driven back to the Presidential Palace to hold a press conference with his Vietnamese counterpart Tran Dai Quang, where the two announced the full lifting of a U.S. embargo on leathal weapon sales to Vietnam, among other issues.
President Obama will meet with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong the same afternoon, before joining a state dinner.
The president arrived in Vietnam for the first time on Sunday night and will leave for a G7 summit in Japan on Wednesday.
