Vietnamese Party chief and State President Nguyen Phu Trong joined talks with Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni in Phnom Penh on Monday, as part of his February 25 - 26 state visit to Cambodia, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
The Vietnamese leader’s visit would open up a new period of development for the two countries’ solidarity, traditional friendship, and multifaceted cooperation, King Sihamoni said at the meeting.
He affirmed that Vietnamese people are great, reliable friends of Cambodians and that Cambodia will always be Vietnam's good neighbors.
The king pledged to continue doing his utmost to nurture and promote the close-knit relationship between the two nations.
Replying to his host, Trong expressed his belief that Cambodia will continue building their country toward harmony, independence, neutrality, democracy, social growth, and friendship with all nations, thanks to the leadership of the king and the Cambodian royal government.
The two leaders spoke with delight on the important and comprehensive outcomes resulting from the two nations’ ties over the past five decades.
Bilateral political relations have been continuously fortified via regular visits made by Vietnamese and Cambodian high-ranking leaders, while economic cooperation has been thriving, bringing practical benefits to their people, they said.
Ties in defense-security and foreign diplomacy have followed suit, and are now important pillars of bilateral collaboration.
The two countries have always supported each other and worked together at international forums, contributing to peace, stability and cooperation in the region and the world.
Both sides agreed that preserving and developing the valuable relationship are the responsibilities of both countries and peoples, especially the younger generations.
On the same day, Trong and his delegation of high-ranking Vietnamese officials laid flowers at the Norodom Sihanouk Monument, as well as visiting Queen Mother Nordom Monineath Sihanouk. King Sihamoni hosted a banquet at the Royal Palace in honor of the Vietnamese leader in the evening.
