A delegation from the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense led by Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, is attending Asia’s biggest air show, hosted by Singapore from Tuesday to Sunday this week.
The biennial commercial and defense-focused Singapore Airshow gathers more than 900 companies from 45 countries and territories, according to the show organizer.
The Vietnamese delegation has explored booths featuring products from global corporations, observed flight displays by air force teams from Singapore, India, the U.S., South Korea, Australia, and China, along with performances by international commercial aircraft corporations.
The delegation also met with some partners to discuss issues of mutual concern and bilateral cooperation.
During a meeting with Deputy Minister of Defense of the Czech Republic Daniel Blažkovec, Lieutenant General Son extended his thanks to the people of Czechoslovakia, a former state of central Europe comprising the Czech Republic and Slovakia, for their support to Vietnam during the latter’s struggle for national independence and development.
Lieutenant General Son spoke highly of outstanding outcomes of the defense cooperation between Vietnam and the Czech Republic over the past years, hoping that the two nations will expand their collaboration in more fields, such as delegation exchanges and training.
During a meeting with Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Air Force Andrew Hunter, Son highlighted the continued success of Vietnam-U.S. bilateral relations.
The delegation proposed enhancing cooperation in various areas, emphasizing training programs, rescue operations, military medicine, UN peacekeeping missions, and addressing the consequences of war in Southeast Asia.
