China’s new ambassador to Vietnam He Wei presented a copy of his credentials to the Directorate of State Protocol under the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, one day after his arrival in Hanoi.
Deputy head of the Directorate of State Protocol Vu Hoang Yen welcomed Ambassador He as the 19th envoy of China to Vietnam since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1950.
The new ambassador has replaced his predecessor Xiong Bo, who ended his term and returned to China on August 30.
Upon receiving the letter of credence from Ambassador He, Yen congratulated him on his appointment and expressed her hope that he would enhance his role to further promote the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
Yen reiterated that China is a top priority in Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, and diversification.
The Vietnamese foreign ministry, the Directorate of State Protocol, as well as relevant units are ready to facilitate the new ambassador’s duties during his term of office in Vietnam, Yen stated.
Ambassador He shared his pleasure at the important and historic developments in the relationship between the two Parties and the two nations over the past many years.
The all-round cooperation between the two countries has been incessantly consolidated and developed positively, while their reliable political-diplomatic relations have been promoted consistently through maintaining delegation exchanges at all levels, channels, and mechanisms.
The diplomat hoped that during his tenure in Vietnam, he would continue to receive support from the Vietnamese foreign ministry and its units to further deepen the relationship between the two nations.
The new envoy, 54, is a professional diplomat who once worked at the Chinese embassies in the Philippines and India before being appointed as consul general in Toronto, Canada in 2017.
In his first message upon arriving in Vietnam, Ambassador He affirmed that he and his colleagues at the Chinese Embassy in Hanoi are ready to collaborate with people from all sectors to follow the strategic directives of both nations' top leaders, with a focus on building a Vietnam-China community with a shared future of strategic significance.
He also expressed hope that during his tenure, he will contribute to enhancing mutual strategic trust, deepening political exchanges, expanding practical cooperation, strengthening cultural and people-to-people ties, and elevating China-Vietnam relations to new heights.
Vietnam and China established their diplomatic ties in January 1950, and formed their comprehensive strategic partnership in May 2008.
