A Vietnamese mother Friday jumped to her death with her two children in the southern port city of Busan, South Korea, according to local police. The mother, 27-year-old Vo Thi Minh Phuong, jumped to her death from the 18th floor of an apartment building, holding her 7-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son. After eight years of marriage, Phuong, who was a native of Vietnam’s southern Hau Giang province, and her South Korean husband recently filed for divorce, police said. The 47-year-old husband failed to stop the suicide, as the mother had locked herself in a room before jumping, they said. Contacted by Tuoi Tre, Nguyen Thai Hoa, a counselor in public affairs at the Vietnamese Embassy in South Korea, confirmed the death and said the heartbreaking incident happened at about 11 am of November 23. The Embassy will request South Korean competent agencies to launch an investigation to clarify the cause of the death, the official said. “The Embassy will assist Phuong’s relatives in receiving her body and repatriating it to Vietnam.” Suicide note According to initial comments, family conflicts could be the cause of the woman’s suicide, Hoa said. Police are investigating to clarify whether domestic violence was behind the suicide, the Korea Times reported, adding that investigators would look into a suicide note written in Vietnamese and question the husband for further details. In the two-page note, Phuong allegedly wrote, “That were days when I could no longer endure being beaten ruthlessly by my husband who suspected me to be an adulteress. “My husband’s relatives have not allowed me to meet my children. Life is meaningless to me now. Bury me along with my two children in the same grave in Vietnam.” Phuong’ s parents from Vietnam arrived in South Korean to visit her a year ago, the Korea Times said.
