Police in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 9 have transferred a large theft case in which the total value of stolen items including 54 diamonds amounts to US$336,000 to the city police for further investigation. After a month of investigation, the district police have yet to trace out the culprit of the theft that happened last month in a house on Cau Dinh Street, Long Phuoc Ward. The house’s owner, K.A. reported to local police that she found her safe box had been pried open when she returned home after a business trip. As a result, A. said, 54 diamonds, 3 gold rings with ruby stones, 10 white gold rings with diamonds, a large gold necklace, a gold bracelet, and an ancient bowl had gone. The total value of the stolen assets is about VND7 billion (US$336,000), A. said. Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Van Sam, head of the Social Crime Investigation Police Team of the District Police, said investigators have not discovered any signs showing that someone had broken into the house. At the time when the theft was discovered, there were several domestic helpers in the house, the official said.
