A coffee shop in Ho Chi Minh City has recently drawn public attention to its newest drink: iced tea with a twist of bánh tráng trộn (rice paper salad).
The drink, trà bánh tráng trộn, is a refreshing summer beverage and a specialty at Cai Tiem Ca Phe shop, managed by Nguyen Hoang Chinh Nghia, recognized as Bong Tim on TikTok in Vietnam, along with his partners.
Local social networks are abuzz with controversy surrounding the drink, with questions arising about its taste and safety for health.
Many believe that the drink has a 'weird' flavor because it combines sweet tea with savory salad.
In Ho Chi Minh City, bánh tráng trộn has been a staple among street snacks.
In essence, the snack comprises shredded rice paper combined with shrimp salt and kumquat juice, resulting in a delightful blend of sweet, sour, and salty flavors.
It is then garnished with shredded green mango, boiled quail eggs, and Vietnamese coriander.

According to the coffee shop, trà bánh tráng trộn is inspired by the popular snack and boasts a sweet and sour taste, with a faint aroma of kumquat and Vietnamese coriander leaves.
Trà bánh tráng trộn ingeniously incorporates all the components of the traditional salad into a refreshing beverage.
Quail eggs pose one of the most challenging ingredients to manage, as disclosed by the shop.
"The eggs undergo a delicate process of soft-boiling and marination in a special sauce to ensure they complement the drink perfectly," explained Bong Tim in a video detailing how to make the beverage.
The co-owner of the shop revealed that he had worked with a connoisseur for two months on trà bánh tráng trộn with around eight trials before introducing the drink.
