Chill recurs in North, South sees temp drop to 17°C

Monday, February 10, 2014, 11:55 GMT+7

Two cold fronts are heading for northern Vietnam, which will experience a chill again after a weekend of warmth. Meanwhile, the temperature in the southern region will drop to 17 degrees Celsius, as it was last month, the Southern Hydrometeorology Station reported.

>> North turns cold, South remains warm After days of warm weather, northern provinces will be hit by two cold snaps in a row this week, which will cause the temperature in the region to drop by 5-7 degrees Celsius during the week starting Monday, February 10. The lowest temperature will be 9-12 degrees on average, but in mountainous areas, it will be lower, at 5-8 degrees, and in high mountainous regions, including Sin Ho, Sa Pa, Mau Son, and Ngan Son, it will be under 5 degrees.  Upon moving south, the cold front will weaken when it surpasses the Hai Van Pass, which links central Thua Thien-Hue Province and Da Nang City. Thus, the weather in the coastal region from Da Nang to Binh Dinh Province will be warmer than in northern provinces in the next few days. Days will be sunny but nights and mornings will be cold, with the lowest temperatures dropping to 17-19 degrees. Meanwhile, the current warm weather in the southern region will end in a few days. It will be windy and cold at night and in the morning, with an average temperature 2-3 degrees lower than at present. The lowest temperatures will be 17-18 degrees in eastern provinces, 18-20 degrees in Ho Chi Minh City, and 19-21 degrees in western provinces.
