Another 27 streets will be named after researchers, artists and technologists including Vietnam's most famous revolutionary poet To Huu, poet Huy Can, people's artist Ut Tra On, celebrated composer Trinh Cong Son and Prof. Duong Quang Trung.

There will be 8 streets which will be named after foreign notabilities including Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara as well as an important figure in Latin American literature Jose Marti and famous scientist Marie Curie.

Besides, there are 969 names of late Vietnamese Heroic Mothers which are eligible to be added to the list of potential street names.

In late 2013, HCMC People’s Committee, in collaboration with the HCMC’s Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, collected public opinions on the street naming plan before submitting it to the city People’s Council.

Accordingly, the 7.1km street, which runs from the Dien Bien Phu – Dinh Tien Hoang intersection in District 1 over the Saigon Bridge to Rach Chiec Bridge on Hanoi Highway, was proposed to bear the General Giap’s name.
