Politics:

-- Government Inspectorate Huynh Phong Tranh has suggested that the law-making National Assembly chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung authorize inspection and auditing agencies to start criminal proceedings against suspects. Now the authorization belongs to police.

-- There should be regulations on compulsory insurance for construction sites, according to a conference on the modification of the Construction Law held in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday.

Society:

-- Hanoi has not issued new identification cards with 12 digits, instead of 9 as in current templates, because of equipment problems, said Major General Tran Van Ve, deputy chief of the local police department for administrative management. Earlier, the capital city planned to start grating the new cards on April 1.

-- Two hundred and forty-five out of 528 foreign workers at the Vinh Tan 2 thermal power plant in the central province of Binh Thuan in the first quarter this year do not have work permits, according to the provincial Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs.

Business:

-- Local and foreign individuals leaving or entering Vietnam will be banned from bringing gold bullion or gold material from May 15, according to a State Bank of Vietnam circular.  

Lifestyle:

-- Le Hong Son, head of the legal department of the Ministry of Justice, has recommended the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to revoke its decision to ban Diem Huong, a Vietnamese beauty, from engaging in the local performing industry within three days from March 31. The culture ministry imposed a ban on Huong after discovering that she competed at Miss Universe 2012 when she was married, a violation of the competition’s rules.

Sports:

-- The Vietnamese government is to discuss whether to host the Asian Games in 2019 on Tuesday. In 2012, Vietnam was granted the right to organize the event but there is strong opposition to the organization in the country now.

-- Le Hoai Anh has won an election to hold the post of general secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation for the term 2014-18.

Education:

-- The Ministry of Education and Training has announced that the national high school examination will be organized from June 2 to 4.
