Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has urged the aviation sector to take all necessary measures to prevent incidents related to air traffic safety in 2015.

In order to ensure flight security and safety, the committee, airlines, and flight management corporations must design their plans of action for 2015 and the coming years, Deputy PM Hai underlined.

Such plans must include investment in upgrading infrastructure and equipment, and measures to prevent air traffic incidents and remedies to such incidents, he said.

Agencies concerned must tighten control and inspections over aviation activities to minimize security and safety threats to planes and passengers, he added. A representative of the aviation sector told the conference that the year 2014 witnessed many serious air accidents in the world, including two cases involving the Malaysian aviation industry. Meanwhile, Vietnam has had no civil aviation accidents during the past 17 years, the representative said. Deputy PM Hai also cited an international report as saying that Vietnam now ranks 50th out of 145 countries in terms of aviation safety and security, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

According to domestic statistics, 91 incidents relating to air safety and 300 air security-related violations occurred in Vietnam in 2014.

Deputy PM Hai said that although these incidents caused no serious consequences, the sector should strengthen management, control and supervision to avoid similar cases in the future. “Consequences of air accidents are usually severe and heartbroken. It is possible to say that no mistakes are accepted in the field of air safety. It is necessary for us to be always on high alert, take continuous preventive measures, and determine concrete responsibilities of each agency concerned,” he stressed.
