-- Colonel Nguyen Van Quy, head of the police department in the outlying district of Binh Chanh in Ho Chi Minh City, said on Saturday that they had arrested 13 sex workers and masseuses and several thugs stealing from foreigners in District 1, District 3, District 5, District 8 and Binh Chanh District.

-- According to the office of the People’s Committee in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa, its chair has requested that a project to build Song Cai Tourist Wharf in Nha Trang City be re-considered.

-- According to a report revealed at a seminar on Saturday, the Central Highlands is currently Vietnam’s only region which has yet to avert natural forest shrinkage. The region has lost up to 33,600 hectares of natural woods each year.

-- Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Hoang Anh Tuan on Saturday visited Vietnamese fishermen detained at Tanjung Pinang Prison on Bintan Island. He has also worked with local agencies in a bid to safeguard the fishermen’s rightful, legitimate rights and benefits.

Business

-- Many tourists have complained that they have failed to book rooms at reasonable rates for their stay in Da Lat, a resort town located in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, to partake in the annual Da Lat Flower Festival, slated to run from December 29, 2015 to January 2, 2016. Most hotels have announced they had run out of rooms or fixed considerably higher rates than usual.

-- Statistics released by the Ho Chi Minh City branch of the Japan External Trade Organization showed that approximately 770 Japanese restaurants are operating across Vietnam, with over half of more than 400 restaurateurs in Ho Chi Minh City being Japanese. The number of Japanese restaurants is on the rise while competition is also fierce.

-- Kobe Cow Vietnam JSC on Saturday debuted its Kuroge beef, produced by first-generation Kobe cows bred in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong in the past four years, on the local market. The premium meat currently fetches around VND3 million (US$133) per kilogram.
