It’s cooler in northern Vietnam, but sweltering in southern region this week

It will shift from a hot to cold weather pattern in northern Vietnam while scorching climatic conditions will remain unchanged in the southern part of the country this week.

Under the influence of a cold front accompanied by bad weather disturbances in high latitude, temperatures in the north will suddenly plummet on the first few days of the week, Le Thi Xuan Lan, a meteorologist in Ho Chi Minh City, said.

The average temperature in the region will drop be five to seven degrees Celsius and it will be cloudy, with rainfall and potential whirlwinds, gusts, and hail expected, Lan added.

A more pleasant weather patter carrying cloudy spells and scattered showers will take over the previously hot atmosphere in central Vietnam with the occasional occurrence of hail and strong squalls in the localities from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue Provinces, according to the meteorologist.

Provinces south of the Hai Van Pass will likely experience light rain in the evening, with maximum temperatures during the day forecast to be below 34 degrees Celsius.

The Central Highlands will continue to be impacted by sunny spells, with the highest temperature ranging between 35 and 36 degrees Celsius, on the first day of the week, before cooling down as the week progresses with showers in the evening and at night.

People in southern localities will not be able to escape the extreme heat this week as temperatures are forecast to reach 37 to 38 degrees Celsius, the weather expert said.

Despite the possibility of light rainfall in several areas, drought will grow severer throughout the week due to the high level of evaporation, she concluded.
