Thu Thuy, a resident of Van Ho District, remarked that the recent hailstorm was an uncommon occurrence in the area.
She added that she had never witnessed such an extraordinary hailstorm before.
“Big hailstones rained down for a long time, taking a heavy toll on crops,” Thuy lamented.
An official from Long Luong Commune told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Wednesday afternoon that the hailstorm damaged both property and crops.
“The hailstorm lasted for one hour, destroying crops and leaving holes in the roofs of many houses,” the official confirmed.
Hailstorms also hit Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, and Lao Cai Provinces the same day.
In particular, Pa Co and Hang Kia Communes in Mai Chau District, Hoa Binh Province were pounded by 20-minute hailstorms which damaged fruit crops, gardens, and homes.
Meanwhile, communes in Van Ban District under Lao Cai Province were struck by egg-sized hail.
