While rescuers continue their search for a fishing boat and its five crewmen from the south-central Vietnamese province of Binh Dinh that went missing near the Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago in the East Vietnam Sea, another boat was confirmed to have gone off radar that same day.

The second boat, numbered BD 95670TS, and its four crewmen were last seen about 280 nauticalmiles northeast of Linh Con Island in Vietnam’s Hoang Sa at around 6:00 am on July 29, according to the National Committee for Search and Rescue.

Fishing boats operating nearby have been asked to join the search, while rescue units have also been dispatched to the area.

Vietnamese authorities have asked their Chinese counterparts to assist in the search and rescue mission.

The four fishermen were still missing as of Wednesday evening.

Also on the morning of July 29, fishing boat BD 95613TS was damaged by strong waves which eventually sank the vessel several hours later.

The ship, carrying five fishermen from Tam Quan Nam Commune in Hoai Nhon District, Binh Dinh, was operating at about 112 nautical miles east of Linh Con Island.

A naval vessel, several fishing boats from Vietnam, and rescuers from China have been looking for the victims, but with little success.

Nguyen Chi Cong, vice- chairman of the People’s Committee in Hoai Nhon District, stated on Tuesday that rescuers have so far only found damaged remains from the vessel.
