An ongoing investigation is being conducted after someone had broken into an under-construction urban railway station in Hanoi and painted graffiti on some of the trains.

Several graffitis were discovered on a locomotive and several train cars at Cat Linh Station, part of the Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway project in the capital, on Tuesday morning.

An official from the Vietnam Railway Authority, under the transport ministry, which is the project developer, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that they were looking into the case and checked the people who had entered and exited the construction site.

Officers also carried out an investigation on Tuesday evening.

The China Railway Sixth Group, a subsidiary of construction conglomerate China Railway Group, which is the EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) contractor, has asked competent agencies to help tighten security at Cat Linh Station as well as other terminals to prevent the situation from recurring.

The Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway project broke ground in October 2011, at an initial investment estimate of US$552 million, $419 million of which comes from China's official development assistance (ODA).

The railway route includes 13 trains, nine of which have been brought to the construction site.

The trains were manufactured by a Beijing-based company, each measuring 79 meters long and consisting of four cars with the maximum capacity of 1,326 passengers.
