Police are searching for a life-sentence inmate who escaped from a prison in Thanh Hoa Province, located in north-central Vietnam, on Sunday.
Vu Manh Hau, 23, was serving a life sentence at the prison for murder when he sneaked past guards and fled while doing labor work on Sunday, a corrections officer told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Tuesday.
The prison, located in Thanh Hoa’s Yen Dinh District, is run by Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security.
Corrections officer Le Van Cuu said the prison break was reported at around 4:00 pm, when inmates were allowed outside of their cells to perform labor work as part of their prison term.
Hau, who is about 165 centimeters tall, was a resident in Phu Xuyen District, Hanoi before being put in prison for murder, according to a police statement.
Citizens are authorized to capture Hau on the spot or report to relevant authorities upon sightings of the prisoner, an announcement issued by the prison reads.

In September 2017, two death-row prisoners broke free from a police-run jailhouse in Hanoi and were on the run for nearly a week before they were captured by police officers.
The high-profile prison break led to a probe into correctional officers at the detention center, who were found to have “lacked responsibility while overseeing the inmates” and charged with dereliction of duty.
