A Vietnamese officer used the barrel of an AK rifle to break the windows of a car trying to get away during a police chase in the northern province of Quang Ninh on Thursday.
Officers on duty tried to pull over a yellow Chevrolet Camaro found speeding in Mong Cai City on Thursday morning, an officer from the traffic police division of Quang Ninh police told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on the same day.
Police also suspected the vehicle of being involved in criminal activities, the officer said.
In footage posted to a local Facebook page, the car in question could be seen driving in reverse to try and back away after being cut off by a chasing police vehicle.
One officer, wielding an AK rifle, got off from the police pickup truck and chased the violating car on foot.
Once he caught up with the Chevrolet, the male officer used the gun’s barrel to repeatedly hit the vehicle’s windows on the driver’s side, shattering them.
The police chase only ended when the car came to a stop on the sidewalk of Hung Vuong Street in Mong Cai, with its driver having left the scene before police arrived, leaving one passenger in the vehicle.

A source told Tuoi Tre the pony car is owned by a local business mogul.
Mong Cai and Quang Ninh police are still working on the case.
The AK, also known as the Kalashnikov, is an automatic rifle based on the original design of Russian general Mikhail Kalashnikov.
Use of firearms is rarely seen among Vietnamese traffic police, who are often filmed being assaulted or hit by traffic violators while on duty.
