-- Azerbaijan considers Vietnam an important partner in Southeast Asia and hopes to strengthen multifaceted relations with the country, said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at a meeting on Thursday with Vietnamese Vice State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh in Baku.

-- Two more Vietnamese officers, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Le Ngoc Son and Major Nguyen Thi Minh Phuong, will join the United Nations peacekeeping mission in South Sudan, the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department under the Ministry of National Defense announced at a ceremony in Hanoi on Thursday.

-- Hundreds of people took part in a firefighting drill at Vietnam’s tallest building, the Landmark 81, in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday based on a simulated situation that a blaze, caused by an electrical short circuit on the seventh floor of the 461-meter building, has spread to other floors, leaving many stranded.

-- The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand on Thursday received two Vietnamese fishermen, 51-year-old Lam Van Con and 53-year-old Duong Van Hai, who had been rescued by Thai fishermen and coast guards after their squid-fishing boat had sunk during a storm off the southern Thai province of Nakhon Si Thammarat in September.

-- Vietnam's aviation market will play a key role in the aviation growth in Southeast Asia in the next 20 years and the country’s fleet is expected to quadruple by 2038, said Darren Hulst, managing director of market analysis and sales support at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, at a press conference on the airline market held in Hanoi on Thursday.

-- Despite the slowdown in global deal-making due to ongoing worldwide economic uncertainty, Vietnam is forecast to remain active in merger and acquisition (M&A) in 2020, according to a new report by multinational law firm Baker McKenzie.

-- Vietnam’s Bamboo Airways has added two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft to its fleet after officially welcoming the planes from its partner GE Capital Aviation Service (GECAS) in Singapore on Thursday. The aircraft will be put into operation in November this year.
