— Vietnam reported no new case of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Wednesday morning – the 55th day of no community infection, with the tally still at 332 and only 15 patients remaining in treatment.

— A British pilot in Ho Chi Minh City who is Vietnam’s most seriously ill COVID-19 patient has been able to press the buttons on a computer keyboard, one more positive and surprising improvement that he has made so far during his treatment at Cho Ray Hospital, the infirmary announced on Tuesday evening.

— Police in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City have detained a group of three Vietnamese women for an investigation into alleged theft and robbery targeting people living on Bui Vien Street in the city’s ‘backpacker area’ since the end of May.

— Police in the north-central province of Nghe An have summoned an 11th-grade male student under the suspicion that he might be involved in the death of a five-year-old child, who had gone missing since Sunday last week before his body was discovered at an abandoned house late Tuesday afternoon.

— A 19-month-old child in the northern province of Vinh Phuc has been saved from a critical condition after being left inside a closed car for two hours.

— Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Tuesday agreed to reopen discos and karaoke parlors and ordered the consideration of resuming commercial international flights to destinations that are “safe” from COVID-19.

— Vietnam’s food producer KIDO Group announced at its subsidiary Kido Foods’ annual general meeting on Tuesday it is entering the beverage industry by setting up a joint venture with dairy giant Vinamilk.

— Midfielder Chuong Thi Kieu of the national Vietnamese women’s football team was the recipient of the Fair Play Award 2019 during an award ceremony held in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday. She was hailed for playing through her pains during the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in the Philippines, helping her team win the gold medal in their event for the record sixth time.

— The Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will host a concert celebrating the 250th birthday of Beethoven at the Municipal Theater in District 1 on Saturday, June 13.

World news

— Over 7.3 million people have caught COVID-19 around the world, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Health. Nearly 413,000 have died of the disease globally while almost 3.59 million have recovered.
