— A 38-year-old man returning from Germany became the latest COVID-19 case reported in Vietnam, bringing the national tally to 1,305 infections. He was quarantined upon arrival and is being treated at Thai Binh General Hospital in the namesake northern province. 

— As many as 115 households in Phuong Duc Commune, located in Hanoi’s Phu Xuyen District, have had to return a total of VND280 million (US$12,082) to the state budget after inspectors found in August that they were not actually in need of financial support from the government to deal with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

— Nearly 1,200 drug-related criminals, most of whom are classified between dangerous and particularly dangerous, are still in the community, heard the Investigation Police Department on Drug-Related Crimes’ meeting in Hanoi on Friday afternoon.

Education

— The Consulate General of France in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday held a ceremony to express gratitude to nearly 100 French-language teachers from the southern metropolis and nearby provinces in observance of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day, which is celebrated annually on November 20.

— Vietnam remains at the sixth ranking among countries sending students to the U.S. with 23,777 undergraduate students taking education programs at various levels, contributing $827 million to the U.S. economy in the 2019-2020 academic year, according to the Institute of International Education (IIE)’s latest annual Open Doors report.

Business

— The Vietnamese dong will remain stable for the rest of the year but may devaluate by 0.5 percent against the US dollar in 2021, VNDirect Securities Corp forecast.

— Vietnam is projected to be among economies posting big gains in the world’s per-capita income rankings during the quarter-century through 2025, according to data analyzed by Bloomberg.

— Do Thi Ha, a 19-year-old contestant from the north-central province of Thanh Hoa, was crowned Miss Vietnam 2020 on Friday night.

Sports

— Hanoi FC footballer Van Quyet was named Men’s Best Player of the 2020 V-League 1, Vietnam’s top-flight professional football tournament, at the V-League Awards 2020 on Friday evening. 

— More than 2,200 runners will race up to 100km in Vietnam’s highest mountains at the Vietnam Mountain Marathon (VMM) 2020 in Sa Pa in the northern province of Lao Cai this weekend.
