The Ministry of Health recorded 8,133 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, along with 1,325 recoveries and 88 deaths.
The latest cases, including four imported and 8,129 local transmissions, were logged in 55 provinces and cities, the ministry said, noting that 3,952 patients were detected in the community.
Ho Chi Minh City reported 1,276 of the domestically-transmitted infections, Dong Nai Province 923, Binh Duong Province 619, Soc Trang Province 572, An Giang Province 557, Kien Giang Province 291, Binh Thuan Province 279, Hanoi 268, Dak Lak Province 197, Can Tho City 163, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 154, Khanh Hoa Province 99, Quang Nam Province 39, Da Nang 32, and Hai Phong City four.
Vietnam had confirmed 7,954 locally-infected patients on Monday.
The country has documented 979,840 community-based transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave emerged on April 27, 839,983 of them having recovered from the respiratory disease.
Ho Chi Minh City is the largest epicenter with 441,216 patients, followed by Binh Duong Province with 240,347, Dong Nai Province with 74,065, Long An Province with 35,917, Tien Giang Province with 18,703, An Giang Province with 14,510, Tay Ninh Province with 13,251, Kien Giang Province with 12,744, Dong Thap Province with 11,518, Khanh Hoa Province with 9,435, Can Tho City with 8,673, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province with 5,671, Hanoi with 5,582, and Da Nang with 5,101.
Vietnam detected only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.
The health ministry registered 1,325 recovered patients on Tuesday, raising the total to 842,800.
The toll has mounted to 22,686 deaths after the ministry logged 88 fatalities on the same day, including 38 in Ho Chi Minh City, 11 in Binh Duong Province, seven in An Giang Province, and the rest in 15 other provinces and cities.
Vietnam has found 984,805 infections since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit it early last year.
Health workers have given over 92.2 million vaccine doses, including 1,536,448 shots on Monday, since inoculation was rolled out on March 8.
Upwards of 30.3 million people have been jabbed twice.
Health authorities target to inoculate at least two-thirds of a population of nearly 98 million people against COVID-19 by the first quarter of next year.
