The People’s Committee of Thua Thien-Hue Province in central Vietnam announced on Tuesday a plan to put Ho Thuy Tien Park, which had been abandoned for several years, back into operation in March 2023 after completing a VND20-billion (US$804,300) renovation project that was declared in September.
Authorities in Hue City, the capital of Thua Thien-Hue, said on Tuesday that they had done an inspection into Ho Thuy Tien Park before reopening it.
Vo Le Minh Nhat, chairman of the Hue City People's Committee, urged relevant units to protect and clean up the scenery, adorn the infrastructure, restore the restrooms, and ensure the basic conditions necessary to relaunch this park by March 2023.
The park, which spans 63.38 hectares atop Thien An Hill in Hue, roughly 10 kilometers southwest of the city center, is expected to return as a public park after its revamp.
It was officially opened to visitors in 2004 as a tourism area, even though its construction was not completed at that time.
However, after being put into operation, the park proved to be inefficient and was eventually deserted in 2011 before the provincial People’s Committee issued a decision to completely drop it in 2017, as its investor -- Haco Hue Co. -- was laden with debt.
Since then, Ho Thuy Tien Park has become more and more deteriorated, with the structure evoking a feeling of ghostliness.
Its desolate, eerie atmosphere made it a tourist attraction and a popular location for photographers, especially foreign tourists.
