-- Vietnamese State President Luong Cuong on Sunday sent a congratulatory message to Australian Governor-General Sam Mostyn on Australia’s National Day (January 26), while Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also extended his congratulations to his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese. Similarly, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man sent messages to Sue Lines, President of the Senate, and Milton Dick, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Australia, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

-- Police in Da Nang, central Vietnam on Sunday announced the prosecution of six individuals for fraud and money laundering. The suspects include ringleader Zhangmao, a 43-year-old Chinese national, and five Vietnamese accomplices. The group scammed around 800 Vietnamese victims out of nearly VND1.8 trillion (US$76 million).
-- On Sunday evening, the administration of Nam Tu Liem District in Hanoi held a rehearsal for the ‘Ruc Ro Thang Long’ (Brilliant Thang Long) art program at My Dinh Square, ahead of its New Year's Eve performance on January 29. The rehearsal was interrupted when a fire broke out in the F1 racetrack area due to drone equipment falling during a test flight and igniting dry grass. Three fire trucks were sent to extinguish the flames.
-- Fifty-three traffic accidents occurred nationwide on Sunday, the second day of the nine-day Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday, resulting in 25 deaths and 47 injuries, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee. Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of accidents decreased by 30, fatalities dropped by 18, and the number of injured victims reduced by 20.
-- The administration of Binh Duong Province on Sunday approved the selection of investors for the Ho Chi Minh City-Thu Dau Mot-Chon Thanh expressway, which will pass through the province. The project, valued at over VND8.833 trillion ($352.4 million), is the first expressway connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc Provinces. The winning consortium consists of Becamex IDC, Technical Infrastructure Development JSC, Becamex Binh Phuoc Infrastructure Development JSC, and Deo Ca Group JSC.
-- National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man visited Can Tho City in southern Vietnam on Sunday, where he presented 500 gifts to local residents in celebration of the upcoming Lunar New Year, set for January 29. The recipients included 30 families under the state’s preferential treatment policy, individuals with significant contributions to the Vietnamese revolution, 170 low-income households, and 300 workers and laborers facing difficult circumstances.
-- Police in Gia Lai Province, located in the Central Highlands region, announced on Sunday that they had dismantled three counterfeit coffee production establishments in Pleiku City, seizing nearly 800kg of fake coffee laced with unknown chemicals. Nguyen Hoang Vu, 32, was arrested and charged with producing and selling counterfeit food products. The investigation is ongoing.
-- A cold front has covered northern Vietnam and is spreading to parts of the central region, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported on Monday. Temperatures in the northern region will drop to 9-12 degrees Celsius with mountainous areas dipping to 6-8 degrees Celsius and some high-altitude regions possibly seeing below three degrees Celsius. In central Vietnam, temperatures will range from 14 to 17 degrees Celsius in Quang Binh to Hue and 16 to 19 degrees Celsius in Da Nang to Quang Ngai.

-- U.S. President Donald Trump mocked Denmark's efforts to bolster Greenland's defense, including adding two dog sled patrols, as he reiterated America's interest in the Arctic island. Denmark’s defense minister admitted shortcomings in protecting Greenland but announced plans to invest $1.5 billion in inspection ships, drones, and dog sled patrols, Financial Times reported on Sunday.
