Nguyen Viet Dung, chairman of real estate firm Dat Quang Group in Quang Nam Province, who was accused of beating a female caddy of a golf course in Quang Nam’s neighbor, Da Nang City in central Vietnam, has admitted his fault and made a formal apology.
“I’m wrong, I’m so sorry,” Dung said in a piece run by Quang Nam newspaper on Tuesday.
Dung said that on Tuesday last week, he and some partners came to the BRG Da Nang golf course to play golf. N.A.L. was a caddy serving them.
Due to an argument over the number of clubs used in a hole, he was irritated and failed to control his emotions, so he behaved improperly, he claimed in the piece.
Dung grazed the golf club by L.’s hat, making the club break and rebound to hit her face.
He added that after the case, his family members and some people at the golf course took L. to Da Nang General Hospital for a check-up and treatment.
He also contacted L. to apologize to and compensate her.
L.’s physical and mental health has been stable and she has returned to work since Tuesday.
Dung claimed to be willing to cooperate with relevant agencies in clarifying the case and take full responsibility for his wrong act before the law.
The People’s Council of Quang Nam Province, of which Dung is an incumbent member, on Tuesday issued a press release, saying that “over the past few days, the case in which Nguyen Viet Dung, chairman of Dat Quang Group and a member of the 10th Quang Nam People’s Council in the 2021-26 tenure, hit a caddy of the BRG Da Nang golf course, has made headlines in newspapers and on social networks.
“Getting the information from the newspapers and social networks, the standing board of the Quang Nam People’s Council has quickly charged designated agencies with clarifying the case and has asked Dung to report it in a detailed and honest manner.”
According to the standing board of the provincial People’s Council, if Dung or any other member of the council commits shortcomings and violations, they will face strict penalties in line with the law.
