Doctors at a hospital in Tay Ninh Province, southern Vietnam have saved a construction worker who had his neck pierced with an iron bar due to a labor accident.
The 30-year-old man was recently admitted to Xuyen A General Hospital with an iron bar about four centimeters in diameter and 30 centimeters long piercing through his neck.
The patient previously fell on the scaffolding and had his neck and lower jaw pierced with the iron bar.
He was taken to a nearby medical facility for first aid before being transferred to Xuyen A General Hospital.
The patient was in a critical condition and was diagnosed with internal bleeding, splenic rupture, and a complicated penetrating wound in the neck.
Doctors performed a surgery to remove the iron bar and suture the complicated wound in the patient’s neck.
He was then taken to the digital distraction angiography (DSA) room where doctors stopped bleeding of the splenic artery and preserved the spleen, before he was brought to the intensive care unit.
His health is gradually stabilizing.
According to Nguyen Thanh Sang, a senior doctor at Xuyen A General Hospital, construction workers need to be equipped with proper tools and protection and comply with regulations on occupational safety to avoid unfortunate and life-threatening accidents.
