-- On Thursday, the second day of the Year of the Snake, thousands of people flocked to temples across Ho Chi Minh City to pray for peace, prosperity, and happiness in the new year.

-- No Vietnamese nationals have been reported so far to be involved in the stampede that occurred during the world's largest Mahakumbh Mela festival in Prayagraj City in Uttar Pradesh State, India on Wednesday morning, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

-- From Saturday to Sunday, or the fourth and fifth days of the Year of the Snake, northern and central regions will experience light rain, drizzle, and fog in the early mornings, while southern Vietnam will see sunny weather throughout the day, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

-- Vietnam saw 308 traffic accidents nationwide during the six days of the Vietnamese Lunar New Year holiday (January 25-30), resulting in 137 deaths and 257 injuries, according to a report from the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security.

-- A tragic accident on the National Highway 21 section passing through Nam Dinh Province, northern Vietnam on Thursday afternoon left seven people dead and two injured after an SUV veered off the road and plunged into a river.

-- A 45-year-old driver hailing from Quang Ninh Province, northern Vietnam was booked for driving in the wrong direction on the Hanoi-Hai Phong Expressway on Thursday afternoon. As per prevailing regulations, she faces a fine of VND30-40 million (US$1,200-1,600) and a 10-point deduction from her driver’s license.

-- Uganda has confirmed an outbreak of the Ebola virus in the capital Kampala with the first confirmed patient dying from it on Wednesday, Reuters cited the health ministry as saying on Thursday.
