Three large hospitals totaling some US$225.6 million will officially open in the entrance areas of Ho Chi Minh City, the southern hub of Vietnam, before April 30 this year, the city’s Health Department reported.

The hospitals include Thu Duc Regional General Hospital, Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital, and Cu Chi Regional General Hospital.

Among them, the first two are scheduled for inauguration in April, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Reunification Day (April 30).

Earlier, in early 2021, the Prime Minister approved the construction of the three hospitals using the city’s budget.

The price tags were set at VND1,915 billion ($76.3 million) for Thu Duc Regional General Hospital, VND1,895 billion ($75.5 million) for Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital, and VND1,854 billion ($73.8 million) for Cu Chi Regional General Hospital.

As of January 17, 2024, several specialized departments of Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital had begun operations.

Designed to accommodate 1,000 beds, the hospital features 500 modern inpatient beds across 12 floors.

This hospital has been renovated from the current general hospital, which has outdated infrastructure and fails to meet the growing healthcare needs of residents in Hoc Mon District, the northwestern gateway of the city.

The new Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital is expected to provide medical examination and treatment services for the local population through 2030.

Meanwhile, Thu Duc Regional General Hospital will serve residents in the eastern part of the city and neighboring southeastern provinces.

The facility will include a basement and 10 above-ground floors, covering a total construction area of 78,281 square meters.

Cu Chi Regional General Hospital, the third facility also located in the city's northwestern gateway, is expected to be completed in August and inaugurated in September in celebration of National Day, or September 2.

Once operational, it will offer 1,000 beds and employ 1,250 medical staff.

The hospital aims to develop into a first-class general hospital, providing comprehensive services for residents of Cu Chi District and surrounding areas, while attracting patients from Cambodia.

Regarding the procurement of medical equipment, the city plans to organize a bidding in the first quarter of 2025 to select contractors for the three hospitals.

In September 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council approved a proposal for the procurement of medical equipment for these hospitals, with a total budget exceeding VND4,300 billion ($171.5 million).
