Vietnamese users’ tendency to search for Internet account security terms was stronger in 2022 than in 2021, according to a report by Google on the International Safer Internet Day (February 7).
In particular, ‘one-time password’ not only was one of the five most searched topics last year but also recorded the highest search volume over the past 15 years in Vietnam.
Compared with 2021, Vietnamese Internet users searched more for themes related to cybersecurity, such as ‘random password generators,' ‘password strength,' and ‘ad frauds,' which surged 90, 70, and 50 percent, respectively.
Vietnamese people also paid attention to malware and viruses by searching ‘What is malware?’, ‘the nature of computer worms,' or ‘the nature of viruses.'
Moreover, local Internet users searched for solutions to protect their accounts. Phrases such as ‘anti-DDoS hosting,' ‘business antivirus,' and ‘the Law on Cyber Security’ had a huge search volume.
Google recommended that personal account protection should be given more importance. Internet users should get into a habit of safeguarding their accounts and personal information.
According to Google, Password Managers and 2-Step Verification are effective tools to protect online accounts, improving users’ safety in cyberspace.
Password Managers helps create and store strong and unique passwords for online accounts and sends alerts about logins potentially exposed in data breaches to users.
Cybersecurity experts also encourage Internet users to use Password Managers to avoid online traps.
Meanwhile, 2-Step Verification adds an extra layer of security to users’ accounts besides passwords. To log in their accounts, users need to enter their passwords and a random code sent to them via text messages or the Google Authenticator app.
In 2021, Google successfully got 150 million people auto-enrolled in 2-step verification and the number of accounts hacked fell 50 percent.
