Ten reservoirs have been built to supply water for spraying the construction site of the Long Thanh International Airport project in Dong Nai Province, southern Vietnam in order to reduce dust from the project.
The reservoirs were built to supplement the water supply from natural reservoirs at the construction site, according to Truong Son Construction Corporation, a contractor involved in the airport project.
Water for the 10 new reservoirs was taken from eight wells dug at the construction site.
Rains and water spraying have helped cushion dust from the construction site of the airport project. |
Contractors have also mobilized nearly 60 water tank trucks to spray water on the site in order to reduce dust.
The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the investor of the mammoth airport project, has also dispatched two fire trucks to the site to spray water.

More than 70 kilometers of roads covered with macadam will be also built at the construction site in order to cushion against dust during the construction and soil transport process.
Earlier, thousands of households living near the construction site complained they had been hit by ‘dust storms’ from the project over the past several months.
Thousands of houses, eateries, schools, roads, and trees in the area had been blanketed with dust, and many senior citizens and children have diagnosed with respiratory diseases.
Many foreign direct investment enterprises in a nearby industrial park have also complained about dust, saying that it has affected their products and workers’ health.
As a result, the People’s Committee of Dong Nai Province and relevant agencies asked the ACV to take measures to minimize dust during the site leveling process.
Deputy Minister of Transport Le Anh Tuan, during an inspection into the progress of the airport project last Saturday, also requested that contractors enhance the spray of water and review construction measures and their impact on the environment in order to limit dust from spreading to residential areas.
The deputy minister also assigned the Transport Construction Investment Management Authority to monitor the progress and quality of packages, environmental hygiene, and labor safety.
Over the past few days, rains have also helped reduce dust.
The airport project, which carries an estimated investment of VND336.63 trillion (US$14.2 billion) and is located some 40 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City, will cover around 5,000 hectares of land and is designed to have an annual capacity of 100 million passengers and five million tons of cargo.
Once in place, it will be the largest airport in the nation.
