The investor of the Long Kieng Bridge project in Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday promised to put the project into use on the occasion of Vietnam's National Day on September 2 this year after nearly 23 years of construction.
The promise was made during vice-chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Bui Xuan Cuong's inspection of some incomplete projects in the city, including the Long Kieng Bridge.
The city in 2001 approved the project whose investor is the Transportation Works Construction Investment Project Management Authority of Ho Chi Minh City.
The 318-meter-long bridge project with two approach roads measuring 661 meters in length requires an estimated investment of VND589 billion (US$25.1 million).
Until 2007, only some households had handed over their land for the project.
Work on it did not start until August 2018 and the bridge was expected to be completed at the end of November 2019.
However, site clearance bottlenecks slowed down the progress.
The People’s Committee of Nha Be District handed over the entire cleared site for the project in September last year.
After six months, the project is now 70 percent complete.
Ho Chi Minh City vice-chairman Cuong required the bridge to be completed on June 30 and the approach roads on July 30 at the latest.
Other facilities can be completed later.
