Vietnam’s national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines has spoken out on a report stating that its pilot tested positive for an illegal drug.
The airline makes unannounced, regular, and periodical medical checks on pilots, Vietnam Airlines said in a press release on Friday afternoon.
The checkups are aimed at monitoring the compliance with flight regulations and ensuring the health of pilots in line with the prevailing aviation laws.
The test result of a pilot named D. that has been publicized by some websites remains suspected, said the air carrier.
Officials are in the process of examination, analysis, and assessment using different methods to make a conclusion.
D. has been suspended and is waiting for the final test result.
The airline reported this case to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and will update the official test result later.
Vietnam Airlines affirmed that the safety and health of its employees and passengers are the carrier’s key priorities.
As such, the airline has conducted medical checks on its employees and imposed harsh sanctions on violators.
A few days ago, a report on a test on Pham Ha D. for addictive substances sent to the leader of Flight Team 919 of Vietnam Airlines from medical workers in charge of the team on April 27 was spread on social media.
The pilot was shown testing positive for ketamine, an illicit drug in Vietnam, according to the report.
If the final result proves the pilot positive for the drug, he will have his pilot license revoked permanently, said the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.
