Schneider Electric, a global leader in electrical equipment and industrial automation based in France, has expressed a keen interest in collaborating with NVIDIA, a U.S. semiconductor giant, to develop data centers in Vietnam. 

This announcement was made during a discussion which took place on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 55th World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

Organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with leading local companies like FPT Corporation and VinaCapital, the discussion was held as part of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s trip to attend the WEF. 

The event brought together prominent Vietnamese officials and representatives from international technology leaders such as Google, Schneider Electric, Qualcomm, and Ericsson.

At the forum, Schneider Electric chairman Jean Pascal Tricoire highlighted the company’s ambition to collaborate with NVIDIA to create advanced data centers in Vietnam, a Schneider Electric official told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.    

Tricoire emphasized that these data centers would be well-equipped to support the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution and meet rising energy demands while prioritizing sustainability, in line with Vietnam's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Tricoire noted that partnering with NVIDIA in designing these data centers would accelerate computing power to provide digital intelligence to companies across various sectors.

Based on Schneider Electric’s experience in establishing data centers in leading global markets and emerging regions near Vietnam, these facilities should be designed, deployed, and operated as optimized systems, covering everything from grid-to-chip to chip-to-chiller operations, he stated. 

Liquid cooling is an important application for AI-driven data centers. Schneider Electric has recently taken steps to enhance its capabilities in this area by acquiring a majority stake in Motivair Corporation, a global leader in direct liquid cooling and data center cooling technology.

"Vietnam is emerging as a promising market for high-tech industries," Tricoire said. 

"Our partnership with NVIDIA will enable the development of next-generation data centers in Vietnam.”

Additionally, Tricoire shared Schneider Electric’s involvement in smart city projects in Vietnam, focusing on building intelligent infrastructure, particularly smart grids and energy systems. 

With Vietnam becoming a major global manufacturing hub, the company is offering digital technologies, including software, big data, and IoT, to support industrial clients and production facilities, Tricoire stated.

Recently, Schneider Electric has achieved significant milestones in Vietnam, developing data centers for major local technology companies such as FPT, Viettel, VNPT, and Vinagame.

At the discussion, Nguyen Van Nen, secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, reaffirmed the Vietnamese government’s commitment to supporting high-tech investors through policies offering investment incentives, streamlined procedures, and initiatives to develop high-quality human resources.

Vietnam welcomes partnerships that explore new sectors, expand cooperation, and propose innovative and breakthrough solutions to fuel its technological progress.

On December 5, 2024, the Vietnamese government and NVIDIA signed an agreement to establish an AI research and development center and an AI data center in Vietnam.
