Authorities in Kien Giang Province, southern Vietnam have fined four restaurants a total of VND525 million (US$20,890) for discharging untreated wastewater directly into the environment.
These four F&B businesses were found to have violated environmental regulations by releasing wastewater that exceeded permissible technical standards, the provincial police department confirmed on Thursday.
The violations were uncovered during a joint inspection by the department and local authorities in the provincial city of Rach Gia to assess several businesses’ compliance with environmental protection and food safety regulations.
The four restaurants were found to have discharged untreated wastewater directly into the environment.
Tests conducted by specialized agencies revealed that the wastewater from these establishments exceeded permissible technical standards by multiple times.
Based on these findings, the police department issued administrative penalties for the violations.
In addition to the fines, the offending establishments were required to take corrective actions to mitigate the environmental damage and comply with regulations on environmental protection and food safety in their operations.
