Temperature measured at Tuong Duong Station in Nghe An Province, north-central Vietnam on Sunday set a national record of 44.2 degrees Celsius, exceeding the 44.1 degrees Celsius recorded just a day earlier in neighboring Thanh Hoa Province, according to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.
The temperature in Quan Hoa District, Thanh Hoa on Sunday broke the previous record of 43.4 degrees Celsius set on April 20, 2019 in Huong Khe District of Ha Tinh Province, also in north-central Vietnam.
However, cold air from the north is expected to reduce temperatures.
The cold air affected some areas in the northeastern region on Sunday night, the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting said.
It will cause an impact on some other areas in the region as well as the north-central and northwestern regions on Monday.
As a result, the northeastern region and Thanh Hoa Province will experience cool weather with mercury ranging between 21 and 24 degrees Celsius.
The central and north-central regions were forecast to experience downpours and thunderstorms on Monday with an average rainfall of 20-40 millimeters.
The provinces from Quang Binh to Thua Thien-Hue and the Central Highlands and southern regions can also expect rain.
