The Vietnamese women’s futsal team secured a spot in the 2025 AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup finals as Group D winners, drawing 2-2 with Taiwan in the final qualifying round on Sunday after coming from behind.
Going into the game, the team had already secured moving ahead after two consecutive victories against Myanmar and Macau. The final score was only to determine the Group D category winners.
The game came down to the wire as Taiwan took an early lead during the first 10 minutes of play. The goal prompted an immediate timeout from Vietnamese head coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang.
The team responded brilliantly, equalizing just one minute later.
The goal was a well-executed effort, with Thuy Trang passing out to the right wing for Bien Thi Hang, who then crossed it to Thanh Ngan. Ngan fired the ball past goalkeeper Chu Gang Yi.
Taiwan regained the lead in the 17th minute as Su Hui Chi’s corner kick was flicked on by Lin Dai Chi, setting up Liu Chih Ling for a low shot from the six-meter line that found the back of the net.

In the second half, the Vietnamese players launched a relentless attack, while Taiwan adopted a more cautious defense to protect their lead.
As the match clock ticked on, the Vietnamese team switched to a power play. The tactical gamble paid off, as Bien Thi Hang scored the crucial equalizer with only 90 seconds remaining.
The tie meant Vietnam finished top of Group D with seven points from three matches, while Taiwan also earned seven points but ranked second due to overall goal difference.
The 2025 AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup finals are scheduled in China from May 7 to 18.
The Vietnamese team aim to finish among the top three in the competition to secure a spot in the 2025 Women's Futsal World Cup, slated in the Philippines.
Vietnam is currently ranked 11th in the world.
