Authorities in Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi are verifying the authenticity of a video that went viral on social media on Tuesday showing two women bathing topless in the iconic Hoan Kiem Lake.

In the 26-second video clip, the two women are seen unclothed above the waist, covering their heads, and turning their backs to the holder of the camera while bathing in Hoan Kiem Lake.

While Pham Tuan Long, chairman of Hoan Kiem District, said that the local functional force is currently examining the validity of the video, while another official casted doubt on the material, saying that the location where the two women supposedly bathed has a water level of about two meters, so it would be impossible for them to bathe and walk around freely as depicted in the video.

“The most illogical aspect is that the water at this location is approximately two meters deep, yet it is depicted to be level with the two individuals’ chest height in the video,” the official highlighted.

“We are currently investigating, but it is highly probable that the video was edited.”

Hoan Kiem Lake, also known as Sword Lake, is a freshwater lake, measuring some 12 hectares in the center of Hanoi.

The lake is one of the major sightseeing spots in the Vietnamese capital city and swimming is strictly forbidden there.
