Police in Quang Ninh Province, northern Vietnam said on Saturday that they had apprehended a local man for causing his nibling’s death with abusive behaviors such as confinement and starvation.
Officers are investigating Nguyen Xuan Tan, 27, living in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province for his act of unlawful detention, according to police.
On June 4, Bai Chay Hospital reported to the police station of Ha Long City regarding the case of Tan’s 13-year-old nibling N.T.A., who was admitted to the hospital in a state of cardiac arrest.
Despite medical interventions, A. did not survive.
The subsequent police investigation revealed that A., accompanied by their grandmother who is also Tan’s mother, had traveled from their hometown in northern Thai Binh Province to Tan’s residence in mid-May to spend the summer there.
During A.’s stay, Tan suspected that A. stole money and a cellphone from his friend.
Tan resorted to tying the child’s hands with a rope to the window bars of his house and used a tree branch to strike the child’s leg, while also depriving him of food, ultimately resulting in the demise of the victim.
After gathering the necessary documents, the police station of Ha Long City temporarily detained Tan and proceeded the case in accordance with the relevant regulations.
