Three children aged 12 to 14 drowned during a sea swim in Thanh Hoa Province, north-central Vietnam on Sunday.
The accident happened at about 3:00 pm at the Hai Ninh Beach in the namesake ward of Nghi Son Town, Thanh Hoa Province.
Their grandfather took them and another child to the beach to bathe in the sea.
While the three children were swimming at the beach, the grandfather was sitting ashore and then took the youngest child home.
When he came back to the beach, the three had been swept away and gone missing.
Local rescuers found their bodies the same afternoon, Le Dinh Phuong, chairman of the People’s Committee of Hai Ninh Ward, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Sunday.
The tragic accident occurred when the children returned to their homeland for the summer holiday.
Local authorities have handed over the bodies to their family for funeral, Phuong added.
