Vietnamese State President Vo Van Thuong expects Vietnam to keep cooperating with local and international scientists to develop science and technology in the Southeast Asian nation.
Speaking at a reception for a group of Vietnamese and foreign scientists on Saturday afternoon, President Thuong said that the country attaches great importance to attracting talent and working with scientists.
Apart from facing several challenges, Vietnam is seeing multiple opportunities to speed up its socio-economic growth during this period, he said.
Vietnam realizes that to achieve breakthroughs, a nation needs to develop science and education.
As such, the Vietnamese Party Central Committee and the government always consider the two fields the first priority.
Vietnamese always respect talents and cherish intellectuals as ‘talented and moral people are the core of the nation,’ he underlined.

The country sees intellectuals as its key innovative workforce to spur industrialization, modernization, and global integration.
The Vietnamese state president hopes international and Vietnamese scientists will continue to help the nation implement many scientific projects, and train young Vietnamese scientists.
The top Vietnamese official highly valued the Rencontres du Vietnam, or Meet Vietnam, an association that serves as a bridge between Vietnamese academics and their international counterparts, while praising Professors Tran Thanh Van and Le Kim Ngoc as well as other members of the association for their contributions to Vietnam’s science and education development over the past 30 years.
President Thuong said that he was impressed by the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science Education (ICISE), where hundreds of international scientific conferences have been held, while he was visiting the unique science and education institute in the south-central province of Binh Dinh in July last year.
The group of scientists sat in on an international scientific conference titled ‘Windows on the Universe’ at the ICISE on Monday to mark the 30th anniversary of the Rencontres du Vietnam, and the 10-year anniversary of the ICISE.
