Heavy downpours hit Hanoi on Sunday morning, flooding many streets and slowing down traffic flows in the Vietnamese capital city.
Many districts in the city experienced heavy rains with precipitation reaching up to 100 millimeters in two hours, according to automatic rainfall measuring stations of Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Company Limited.

Among the flooded streets, Nguyen Trai, Hoa Bang, Tran Binh, Phan Van Truong, and Thien Hien were up to 20 centimeters deep under rainwater.
A 400-meter section of Vo Chi Cong Street was submerged 20-40 centimeters under rainwater at noon, causing a severe traffic snarl, according to a Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporter’s observation.
Several cars and motorcycles broke down on the inundated street, said many locals.
Medium to heavy rains are forecast to continue battering the capital city on Sunday night with a rain volume of up to 80 millimeters, according to the national weather center.
Other northern provinces such as Hoa Binh, Thai Nguyen, Vinh Phuc, and Quang Ninh are undergoing moderate to heavy rains with rainfall measuring at 20-50 millimeters.
Areas which are low-lying or close to rivers and streams are particularly at risk for flash flooding and landslides.
“Heavy rains and thunderstorms might remain in the northern region in the coming days,” said the national weather center.
The southern and Central Highlands regions are forecast to face downpours in the afternoons and evenings through Monday, with rainfall reaching up to 150 millimeters.
