A diversion dam at the Ia Glae 2 hydropower project in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai has ruptured due to extended heavy rain, adversely affecting local agricultural crops.
There have been no reported casualties, Tu Ngoc Thong, deputy chairman of Chu Prong District, where the contruction of the hydropower plant is underway, said on Tuesday night.
Local authorities are currently evaluating the aftermath of the dam breach, whose damaged section is estimated at approximately 10 meters in length.
The Ia Glae 2 hydropower plant, as per its design specifications, possesses a 12MW capacity.
Khai Hoang Hydropower Joint Stock Company has funded an investment exceeding VND423 billion (US$17.3 million) into this project.

The impact of Typhoon Koinu, the fourth storm to hit Vietnam this year, brought widespread heavy rainfall to Chu Prong District from Monday night to Tuesday morning, with some areas receiving 147-169mm of rain, according to the Central Highlands hydro-meteorological station.
The intense rainfall resulted in floodwaters, which isolated four residents of a village in the same district during the small hours on Tuesday morning, prompting a rescue.
The four victims were safely evacuated as of 0:30 on the same morning.
