The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has opted for the architectural design proposal featuring nipa palm leaf imagery for a pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River.
The design was proposed by a consortium of Japanese-invested Chodai - Takashi Niwa Architects and Chodai Kisojiban Vietnam.
The city required the design to meet technique and safety requirements and match the surrounding landscapes and planning.
The design got the highest score in a contest launched in 2019 to choose an architectural design for a pedestrian bridge spanning the Saigon River.
The location of the pedestrian bridge will be between Ba Son Bridge and Saigon River Tunnel.
The bridge will connect District 1 and Thu Duc City.
With the design of the nipa palm leaf imagery, piers will be built near the riverside to create a high vertical clearance, according to the municipal Department of Planning and Architecture.
The design is special, impressive, simple, and attractive to local residents and tourists.
The proposed investment plan is feasible and reasonable, the department stated.
The consortium said that it did not infringe copyright or plagiarize any ideas or plans in other projects.
