The People’s Committee of Da Nang City in central Vietnam on Tuesday submitted a proposal to the municipal People’s Council, seeking an investment of about VND70 billion (US$2.9 million) to purchase a firefighting robot and additional equipment.
There are over 200 buildings with at least ten floors in Da Nang, most of which are hotels, apartment complexes, and offices, according to the proposal, which was put forth during the 15th session of the Da Nang People’s Council.
Notably, several buildings exceed 100 meters in height, such as the Novotel Danang Premier Han River Hotel with 38 stories, the Da Nang City Administrative Center with 34 stories, the Muong Thanh Luxury Da Nang Hotel with 42 stories, and the Meliá Vinpearl Danang Riverfront Hotel with 36 stories.
These establishments frequently attract large crowds, posing a high risk of fire and explosion, and complicating rescue efforts while the city has encountered persistent challenges in ensuring fire safety for apartments and high-rises.

This can potentially lead to disastrous consequences in case of a fire, requiring the investment in new firefighting vehicles and equipment.
The city thus proposed the purchase of nine water tankers, seven fire engines, five sets of equipment for rescue efforts in confined spaces, and one firefighting robot.
The total investment for the proposed equipment amounts to approximately VND70 billion.
Besides the enhancement of firefighting capacity, the 15th sitting of the Da Nang People’s Council is set to review 156 documents related to socio-economic development and people’s living conditions.
