Doctors at Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City have successfully saved the life of a female restaurant owner from neighboring Long An Province who had been stabbed 17 times.

On Wednesday, the hospital reported activating red alert procedures and collaborating with multiple specialists to rescue N.T.P., a 48-year-old resident of Long An Province.

The patient was admitted to the hospital on January 25 in a critical condition, with shallow breathing, nasal oxygen supplementation, agitation, and 17 deep stab wounds across her body.

Each stab wound measured 1-2cm in depth, including two puncture wounds in the chest and a wound to the heart, constituting a life-threatening emergency, according to Dr. Tran Anh The from Cho Ray Hospital’s emergency department.

Promptly, doctors conducted a cross-department consultation to come up with emergency surgery, mobilizing 12 personnel from different departments.

Lasting nearly two hours, the surgery successfully controlled the heart wound, stabilized the patient’s blood pressure, and halted further bleeding.

Dr. Pham Minh Huy, also from the emergency department, noted that any delay could have proven fatal for the patient despite her receiving initial first aid at a commune-level health station.

Post-surgery, the patient remained unconscious and required vasopressors.

However, after a week, she regained consciousness, showed promising signs of recovery, and is under close observation.

Earlier on January 25, police in Tan Thanh District of Long An apprehended a suspect believed to be responsible for the attack on the female restaurant owner in an attempted robbery.

According to preliminary investigation results, at around 3:00 pm on the same day, witnesses near L.L. restaurant in Tan Thanh Town of the district heard loud screams before witnessing a man fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.

Meanwhile, N.T.P., the 48-year-old restaurant owner, was found to have collapsed outside her establishment with multiple injuries.

The suspect, who initially identified himself as Huynh Minh Tri, a 31-year-old from Kien Tuong Town in the same province, admitted to planning to rob the restaurateur upon noticing her alone.

Using a knife to intimidate her, Tri attacked P. upon her scream, inflicting multiple stab wounds before fleeing the scene with her motorcycle and phone.

However, he was later apprehended by local people in collaboration with police officers.
