Netizens have expressed outrage over dashcam footage showing a driver permitting their two children to stand up through the sunroof while traveling on a high-speed section of the Phan Thiet-Dau Giay Expressway connecting south-central Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City.
The video, which surfaced on social media on Monday, depicts two children sticking their heads and bodies out of the sunroof of a car traveling on the expressway from south-central Binh Thuan Province to Ho Chi Minh City.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday afternoon on a section passing through Xuan Loc District in southern Dong Nai Province, where speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour are permitted.
Many witnesses were alarmed by the sight and criticized the potential danger.
Initially shared on social media, the controversial footage quickly circulated among car enthusiast groups, sparking outrage from netizens.
Many Internet users voiced frustration at the driver for allowing their children to engage in such perilous conduct.
As per regulations, drivers caught violating seat belt laws -- permitting passengers to travel without wearing seat belts in designated positions while the vehicle is in motion -- may incur fines ranging from VND800,000 (US$33) to VND1 million ($41).
