A nearly-26ha park in downtown Vinh City, the largest of its kind in Vietnam’s north-central Nghe An Province, is undergoing renovation after being left deserted for years.
Established by Nghe An residents who achieved success during their stay in Ho Chi Minh City, the park first opened to the public in June 2005, being home to flower gardens, a play zone, and sports areas for local people.
Park-goers in recent years discovered that the play zone and some other facilities of the park became deserted and aging.
Its facility featuring space-themed projection experience, which was once a popular astro destination among numerous students in the country, is surrounded with wild grass and its entrance gate was locked from the inside.
Wild grass is also found in other places at the park, with some of them locked and some being used to store waste materials.
Nguyen Trung Thang, director of Trung Long JSC, the operator of the Vinh City park, said that his company annually spends VND2-5 billion (US$80,390-200,800) upgrading the park, but the upgrade failed to satisfy the need for entertainment services among the locals, amid the rapid growth of Vinh.
Residents and visitors can enter the park for sightseeing, taking photos, and doing physical exercises for free. Park-goers are only charged if they use entertainment services, Thang elaborated.
However, he added that sales of entertainment services were not enough to serve the upgrade on a regular basis.
Since several facilities in the park are aging, the company has started work to renovate these places to attract more park-goers, he said.
