-- Vietnam has attracted an accumulated amount of foreign direct investment (FDI) of nearly US$500 billion to date, according to data released at an investment promotion conference held on Friday in Binh Dinh Province, south-central Vietnam.

-- Many locations in Quang Ninh Province, northern Vietnam experienced power outages caused by fallen trees and electrical poles as a result of hailstorms and whirlwinds on Friday, the state-owned Vietnam Electricity’s Quang Ninh Power Company said the same day.

-- A teenager in Phu Yen Province, south-central Vietnam has been fined over VND3.7 million ($149) for riding a motorcycle with his legs on the handlebar and without wearing a helmet, a local police officer confirmed on Friday.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City administration has passed a plan to tighten air pollution control in the 2024-25 period, during which the city is set to well control greenhouse gas emissions from transportation and reduce transportation-related air pollution by 85 percent by 2025.

-- Passenger cars with more than 30 seats, sleeper buses, tractor-trailers, and six-axle trucks will be banned from entering the Cam Lo-La Son Expressway, which links Quang Tri Province with Thua Thien Hue Province in central Vietnam, from April 4, the Department for Roads of Vietnam announced on Friday.

The carnival is part of the on-going Amazing Binh Dinh Festival held in the city between March 22 and 31.

-- Canada's Niagara region has proactively declared a state of emergency ahead of a rare total solar eclipse on April 8 that is expected to gather massive crowds to areas in and around the region's popular waterfalls, Reuters reported.

-- Immediate action is needed to "prevent widespread death and total collapse of livelihoods and avert a catastrophic hunger crisis in Sudan," a United Nations-backed global authority on food security warned on Friday, according to Reuters.
